Guild is next to Martin and Gibson one of the largest U.S. manufacturer of acoustic steel string guitars ("Western"or "Folk Guitar") and bass guitars, used were also produced electric guitars.

The company was founded in 1952 by Alfred Mann and George Drongen. The first facility was located in New York City and just had a hundred square meters. After George Mann left a year later the company, Drongen went on alone, and in 1956 was so successful that he had to move into a larger space to Hoboken (New Jersey). Here were some of today's most sought Guild guitars built. During the 1950s and 1960s the company Guild provided many great musicians, and became more, and more popular. The factory was moved to Rhode Iceland, the office remained in New Jersey, which meant that Drongen, who was a trained pilot, often with its own aircraft shuttled back and forth, having on May 3 fatal accident. The now "orphan" company dragged itself economically through so until it was acquired in 1995 by rival Fender. The production facility was only after Corona (California), and finally in 2004 to Tacoma (Washington) relocated.
