Guitar Pickups are magnets which convert the
vibrations from the strings into electric signals. There are two sorts:
single coil pick-ups give a clear sound and
double coil (humbucking) give a fuller sound. A guitar fitted with a double coil
pickup, a coil tap and an in/out of phase switch is the most versatile. The coil
tap enables you to change to single coil when you want a crisper sound. An
in/out phase allows you to switch between a clean sound (in phase), and a hollow
sound (out of phase).
